As a current varsity athlete with a mind for the future of UBC Track and Field and Cross Country, it is my belief that the best legacy I can leave in my transition to the ranks of alumnus is the promotion of the culture of excellence that I was indoctrinated into upon my arrival at UBC.

As Thunderbird Track and Field athletes, we carry with us a proud tradition of success that transcends our own period as active varsity student-athletes. Regardless of graduation year, event discipline, coach, or faculty, we are united as stewards of our Alma Mater’s athletic legacy and it is my hope that each person who graduates from this program will uphold in their personal and professional lives the tradition excellence instilled in them during their athletic one.

With that in mind, the intended purpose of this All-Time Records list is twofold. Firstly, I hope that it will bring joy to past athletes as they look back with pride upon the incredible athletic feats for which they dedicated so much of their time, energy, and talent to achieve. Whether continuing to compete post-collegiately up to the Olympic level or applying their talents to other passions and pursuits, I hope that these performances serve as a confirmation of what is possible through hard work and dedication and as an encouragement to continue striving for excellence in all areas of life. Secondly, I hope that current and future Thunderbirds will be inspired by the accomplishments of those who have come before them. I hope they will be reminded of the proud history that is theirs to uphold and motivated to add their own chapter to UBC Track and Field’s ever growing legacy.

The goal of this project is not so much to cement UBC Track and Field’s history into a static form but rather to lay a foundation on which future successes will be built as the athletes of today and tomorrow aim higher, further, and faster.
